Welcome Lori Corsentino

Please welcome Lori Corsentino this morning. Thank you Lori for coming on my blog, I look forward to seeing any questions or comments since your books sound really fun! I especially like the name of the third book's main character. That's my given name, but I go by Lisa. Good choice! There is a contest. A name will be drawn and the winner receives great gifts from Lori, so enjoy and ask away!

Thank you for hosting me today on your blog, Lisa! I’m excited to be here to share a bit about myself, and my writing, with your readers.

Tell us about your current series.
My new series, Tales of the Fey, is a planned trilogy centering on three siblings in a Fey royal family. The first book, titled Destiny's Awakening, focuses on the brother, Alexander. It is a bit of a twist on an old fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty involving a modern woman and a 500-year-old Prince in an enchanted sleep. This was originally a novella and meant to be an introduction to the series. I took that original story and added more details, so you have a better idea of who the characters are and how they interact with each other. It’s still meant as an introduction to the meatier 2nd and 3rd books.
The second book focuses on Annora, Alexander's twin sister and Crown Princess of their Fey realm, Sha'Mir. We first meet her in the first book. The second book starts with her being kidnapped, so she’s in a bit of a fix and in serious need of a knight in shining armor. What she gets is Sebastian "Bas" St. James, a bounty hunter. I’m really excited about this story and can’t wait to finish it.
The third book focuses on Analiese, the younger sister. She's a warrior Princess who dabbles in science and technology, making her a true Renaissance woman. While on a mission, she finds herself in a strange place, with no memory of who she is or how she got there. Enter jaded cop Jake Devlin. They’re polar opposites, and I love their interactions!
Each one of the stories in the Tales of the Fey is exciting in its own right. Together in a series, I think they’re going to be a real treat.
What inspired your latest book?
Destiny’s Awakening is a prequel to a dark little tale about a fairy princess held captive by an evil wizard that I was working on about 4 years ago. I’ve used that material to create the Fey and mortal worlds that Alex and Evie live in, and also introduced readers to the set of characters that would be featured throughout the planned trilogy.
Tell us about your heroine. Give us one of her strengths and one of her weaknesses.
Evie is a study of contrasts. She’s active, dramatic, extroverted, and skeptical. She questions everything. She’s rather impetuous, so she’ll oftentimes do things spur of the moment and without thinking, which usually lands her in hot water! For all that, she is capable, strong, and independent, except when she finds herself in a place where she can’t get through by herself. Then she’ll reach out and ask for – or rather demand – some help. Her main strength is her confidence and sassiness. She rarely lets things get her down. Her weakness is her impetuous nature. As I mentioned, it usually gets her in trouble! All in all, I think she’s pretty amazing.
Tell us about your hero. Give us one of his strengths and one of his weaknesses.
Prince Alexander is definitely the strong, silent type. He’s steadfast, haughty, and in control of everything around him. He cares deeply about his people and is fiercely protective of things he considers his. He demands respect, and is rather imperious at times. You wouldn’t think it, but he does have a softer side. He is a true romantic and loves the idea of having his life partner at his side. His strength is his power of will and strong protective instincts. His weakness is his inherent caring nature. He will always give of himself to save those he loves. What a great hero to have in your corner!
Do you have critique partners?
I’m not currently active in a group, but I have had several critique partners in the past. I really enjoy working within a group. You can learn so much by reading others work, as well as tap into their writing experience. And – being accountable to a group of writers keeps you writing!
What is most difficult for you to write? Characters, conflict or emotions? Why?
I’d say conflict and emotion are the toughest for me. You have to layer them in to your story, and sometimes I don’t go thick enough! Each is so intense and adds so much to the characters and story that sometimes I think I’m going overboard. I guess I just need to relax and trust myself to not get lost and go off on a tangent.
Do you have a favorite writer you’ve read over and over?
Linda Howard, hands down. She totally rocks. I think I’ve got just about every book she’s ever written. One of my favorites, After the Night, has the most intense love scene I’ve ever read. She’s a real inspiration for me and I love to read her stories!
What genres are you drawn to as a reader?
Regency romance and other historical romances are a definite favorite. I fell in love with the richness of court and country life in England in the early 1800s reading Barbara Cartland novels when I was a pre-teen. I love the combination of romance, history, intrigue, and noble characters.
I also enjoy romantic suspense. Linda Howard was the first author I read that combined romance and murder in such a way that I couldn’t put it down! This genre takes up a lot of space on my bookcases!
I can’t forget paranormal romance. I love the places where the authors can take you with their tales of the supernatural, time travel, and fantasy! If I really need to clear my mind, I’ll pick up a paranormal and enjoy a mini mind vacation.
How far do you plan ahead?
I don’t! I’m a real seat of the pants writer. I know I should plan more, and I usually do plan some after I start a new project. Then again, I have to, because I usually
Do you have any words of inspiration for aspiring authors?
Write. Every singe day put hands to keyboard or pen to paper and write, even if it’s only a couple minutes, or hours at a time. I’m not the best at this, but I find that when I write for a couple days in a row, it becomes something I look forward to.
Network. Get out there and play with your fellow writers. You can learn so much from them. Plus, there’s always a good time when you get a bunch of women in a room talking about sex!
Be true to your muse. Write your own story. Now I’ll agree it’s good to hear feedback from your critique partners or beta readers, and I highly encourage writers to seek this out, but always remember that this is your story – not anyone else’s. That said – don’t be a cement head and refuse to change things! Be flexible and willing to massage what you need, but always stay true to your voice and your characters.
Don’t ever give up. Be brave and keep going. You’ll get there, and it’ll be awesome!
Do you or have you belonged to a writing organization? Which one? Have the helped you with your writing? How?
Yes. I belong to several. I started out on the Yahoo loops and at eHarlequin almost ten years ago. About 5 years ago, I joined Colorado Romance Writers, one of two Denver chapters of Romance Writers of America. I decided I wanted to get really serious with my writing. It was the best move I could have made. It changed my life. Seriously. I’ve learned so much by attending the meetings and networking with other romance writers. I’ve attended classes and workshops and learned many of the facets of the craft of writing, from grammar and characterizations to promotions. If you want to write, I highly recommend joining your local chapter. It could change your life!
Now I belong to several other groups including Heart of Denver Romance Writers, FFnP, and Savvy Authors.

Thanks again Lisa for having me on your blog. I’m giving away a bag of swag, including a free print copy of Destiny’s Awakening to one lucky commentor! For your reading enjoyment, below is a short excerpt of my book. I hope you enjoy!

Evie turned back to her inspection of the perfection of his face. Before she could stop herself, she raised a hand and traced the fine skin encircling his eyes. The tip of her finger then found the small indentation which softened his stubborn chin. Restless, she continued her journey along his square jaw and experienced the erotic tickle sensation only a man’s prickly beard could invoke.
She had plenty of male friends and colleagues, but she had not often spent intimate time with only one. Having the opportunity now to explore and caress territory which was familiar, but unexplored, was like a forbidden treat. She had to admit, she was enjoying it. Studying this masculine, magnificent man was stimulating.
And she was going to kiss him and maybe bring him back to life.
Evie took a deep breath and surrounded herself with the savory richness of his scent. She knew his life was in her hands. Likewise, her life seemed to be in his. They needed each other. It was her job to awaken him. Then it would be his job to release her and send her home.
It was time.
“Evelyn Marie Wright,” she said in her best imitation of her mother’s voice, “do the damn thing.” Evie moved her hands to rest on either side of his head and savored the sight of his succulent lips. With a final pep talk of “ah, hell,” she whispered, “here goes nothing.”
Evie closed her eyes, leaned over and hovered. There was such a tremendous pull to cross that final inch and lay her trembling lips on his. She dropped her head until their mouths met. Molten sensations rushed through her the second she made contact.
She was on fire.
Her lips tingled, shooting a white hot awareness throughout her body. Evie was determined to do a thorough job of kissing his highness. She gave herself permission to let go, to give way to fantasy and let her mouth run wild. She indulged herself with his full bottom lip as she’d wanted to ever since she’d gotten a good look at him. She nipped it, tugged on it, and ran her tongue along to soothe her rowdy ministrations. She increased and lessened the pressure, then pressed quick kisses first along the bottom, then the top.
There was a taste on his lips that hinted of sweet herbs. It was odd, given the circumstances, but very pleasant. She went back for more, snaking her tongue along the lower lobe. When she was about to intensify her kiss, his lips softened. They became flexible, then once again hardened against hers, exerting their own pressure.
He was responding!
His lips moved against hers. The reciprocal caress encouraged her to continue exploring. Startled, she broke the contact. A hand cradled the back of her head and exerted enough pressure to bring her lips back to his.
Oh no, what had she done?

Lori Corsentino Bio
Lori’s love of reading has transcended to include penning her own tales of romance.
