One of the suggestions I've heard over and over I have been working on...find your fans. Not an easy thing to do in our genre-much easier in the romance one.
When your a woman writing fantasy fiction there aren't as many female readers out there. I know, it's hard to believe, but true. Unless, of course, there's romance involved. We do have romance in our books, but not to the extent that most romance readers look for. It's not all about the love story in ours, it's about Stevie's journey and becoming the Guardian in Djenrye.
For me I can't understand why women want to only read these types of stories, but that's just me. I want action and adventure, and epic worlds, not the same story over and over, but with a pirate one book, and a vampire in the other. But I am a fantasy/scifi freak.
If you write in another genre, besides romance, it can be tough searching where your fan types congregate. I have been looking into getting reviews from people that do that for say Amazon or Goodreads, or even looking it to critic sites for my particular genre. But I would love to find the big fans of fantasy.
I know of several people who didn't normally read fantasy but tried our book Fable anyway and really liked it. In fact some have become big fans of ours, which is really nice.
So if any of you writers who read my blog have any hints as to where to find fantasy/scifi fans let me know. I know they're out there! Or if you have any other way I can reach out to them, I would love to know. Just asking!
I think our story is building great and I believe you will really like the next books in our two series. Stevie will soon find out that in the Djen world it's not all rosy. There is a dark side and she will soon discover some truths that even the Djen don't know about. Lore should be a must read!
Lineage, the next compendium, will be about the Andrones and how they came to be cousins of the Wood Elves. There will be more scifi elements in this book.
So, you see there's lots more to tell and hopefully you all will enjoy where the story takes you.
Do you have a hard time finding the fans of your genre? Leave me a comments and fill me in! Until next week, I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.
